Live Music at Speak of the Devil
Some nights at Speak of the Devil feel less like a cocktail bar and more like a little underground music club that accidentally wandered onto West Fifth Street.
Live music has become a huge part of who we are. Not as background noise. Not as some obligatory “Friday night entertainment.” Real music. Played by real musicians. Up close, loud enough to feel, intimate enough to watch fingers move across strings and sticks crack against cymbals from just a few feet away.
Over the years, our tiny stage has hosted an incredible mix of jazz players, singer-songwriters, experimental artists, blues musicians, DJs, folk acts, improvisers, and genre-benders from all over Northeast Ohio and beyond. Some nationally touring. Some local legends. Some artists making their very first appearance in Lorain.
And honestly? We love all of it.
Our room has welcomed performances from artists including:
- Martin Kent Jazz Trio
- Evan Michael Palermo Trio (EMP Trio)
- Eli Leder Group
- Aidan Plank Jazz Combo
- Mezz Recipe
- Dan Spencer
- The Pete Vardous Project
- Austin ‘Walkin’ Cane
- Kristine Jackson
- Anthony Scrofano
- Jason Kaminski
- Mike Petrone
- Garrett Foger
- Craig Martini
- Gabriella Allemena
- Aanya Sengupta
- The Dirty Little Blues Band
- Shannon Elle
- Ray Flanagan
- Ben Gage
- Jazz Cabbage
- Ghani Harris
- Cole Davidson
- Max Allard
The vibe changes with every performance.
Some nights feel like a smoky Blue Note jazz session. Some feel like a basement record release party. Some turn into joyful chaos with packed tables, clinking glasses, and people singing along louder than they planned to. That unpredictability is part of the fun.
What ties it all together is the atmosphere.
There’s something different about hearing live music in a room this intimate. No giant barricades. No stadium screens. Just musicians, cocktails, candlelight, conversation, and the energy that comes from sharing a room together. You can settle into a corner booth with a whiskey, sit directly in front of the bandstand, or wander out to the patio between sets while the music spills through the open door.
We’ve always believed Lorain deserves adventurous, high-quality live music presented in a way that feels welcoming instead of formal or stuffy. The result has become one of our favorite things about the bar — nights where incredible musicians and incredible crowds create something that only exists for a few hours before disappearing into local lore.
So whether you’re here for jazz, indie folk, vinyl nights, experimental soundscapes, blues, soul, or simply a great drink while somebody exceptional plays a guitar ten feet away from you — welcome.
Pull up a chair. The next set’s about to start.
