Date Night at Speak of the Devil
There are plenty of places to go out.
But good date night spots? Real ones? Those are harder to find.
At Speak of the Devil, we’ve always tried to create the kind of room where people actually linger. A place built for conversation, connection, chemistry, and those nights that somehow stretch longer than you planned because neither of you is ready to leave yet.
The atmosphere does a lot of the work.
Low lighting. Music drifting through the room. The hum of conversation. A bar that feels tucked away from the world for a little while. Whether it’s a first date filled with nervous laughs or a couple escaping the babysitter for the night, the vibe here tends to meet people where they are.
And then there are the cocktails.
Classic drinks done properly. House creations with a little personality. Whiskey-forward pours, bright citrus cocktails, amaro, absinthe, mezcal, sparkling wine, late-night martinis — whatever direction your evening wants to go, we’ve probably got something that fits it. Our bartenders genuinely love helping people find the right drink for the moment, whether that means introducing you to a new spirit or simply making the perfect Manhattan.
Not drinking cocktails? We’ve got you there too.
Our wine list leans approachable but thoughtful, with selections that work just as well for casual sipping as they do for settling in over a long conversation. Some nights call for whiskey. Some call for bubbles. Some call for splitting a bottle on the patio while the city quiets down around you.
Speaking of the patio…
When the weather cooperates, it becomes one of the best hidden corners downtown. String lights, cigar smoke, laughter, summer air, and that perfect feeling of nowhere else you need to be. It’s the kind of place where “just one drink” regularly turns into an entire evening.
And the music matters too.
Some nights feature live jazz trios and intimate acoustic performances. Other nights lean into carefully curated vinyl, soul records, indie cuts, or late-night lounge energy. Music here is never overpowering — it’s part of the atmosphere, part of the pacing of the night.
Mostly, though, Speak of the Devil works as a date night destination because it encourages something that feels increasingly rare:
Actual conversation.
No giant TVs screaming for attention. No nightclub chaos. No rushing you out the door. Just good drinks, good music, good lighting, and enough room for people to settle into each other’s company for a while.
And honestly, that’s kind of the whole point.
