DESCRIPTION:Okay\, cocktail people\, this is a pretty big one for us.\n\nOur friend—and one of the absolute heavyweights of cocktail writing—Robert Simonson\, award-winning author and New York Times and Wall Street Journal cocktail and spirits writer\, is returning to Speak of the Devil to celebrate his brand-new book\, “Bourbon and Rye Cocktails: The History of American Whiskey in 73 Recipes”.\n\nWhich would already be plenty cool.\n\nBut our very own Gingerman cocktail is in the damn book.\n\nSo\, yeah. We’re a little geeked.\n\nDoors open at 6pm for a cocktail-hour mix & mingle with Robert. Grab a drink\, talk whiskey\, cocktails\, bars and books\, then at 7pm we’ll sit down with Robert to talk about the new book\, his other work\, the cocktail world and whatever rabbit holes we wander into—followed by a Q&A.\n\nTickets are $45 per person / $80 per couple and include admission\, a copy of “Bourbon and Rye Cocktails” signed by Robert\, and a cocktail from a special menu featuring some of our favorites from the book.\n\nA world-class cocktail writer. Don’t bring one if you don’t. You absolutely do not need to know pressing dates\, matrix numbers or the complete personnel on some obscure 1973 jazz record to participate.\nYou just need to like music.\n\nOur friends from Ship to Shore Books & Music will be hanging around with some records to dig through\, we’ll be making drinks\, and the soundtrack will wander wherever the room takes it.\n\nCould be soul. Could be punk. Could be jazz\, Bowie\, yacht rock\, Nigerian funk or something somebody found in their uncle’s basement.\n\nThat’s the fun of it.

She was taken captive\, eventually lived among the Mohave people\, and received the distinctive blue facial tattoo that would follow her for the rest of her life.\n\nBut “The Blue Tattoo” digs beyond the sensationalized version of Olive’s story that 19th-century America turned into legend—looking instead at identity\, survival\, assimilation and the complicated question of where Olive actually felt she belonged.\n\nThere is A LOT to talk about with this one.\n\nSo grab the book\, grab a drink and join us around the tables for another evening of good conversation with good people.\n\nAt Speak of the Devil — your neighborhood bar/book club/occasional history seminar.

DESCRIPTION:Our guy Ray Flanagan is coming back to Speak of the Devil.\nIf you’ve spent any amount of time around the Northeast Ohio music scene\, chances are you’ve seen Ray somewhere—even if you didn’t realize it at the time.\n\nHe’s one of those musicians who seems to have played with damn near everybody. A ridiculously gifted guitarist with that rare ability to step into just about any kind of music\, listen\, find his place and make the whole thing better.\n\nBut here’s the thing about Ray:\nAs good as he is with a guitar—and he’s really fucking good—the songs are the superpower.\n\nSmart\, beautifully crafted\, no-bullshit songwriting delivered with the easy confidence of somebody who’s spent years doing the work. No unnecessary flash. Nothing to prove. Just a great musician\, a pile of great songs and whatever happens once he settles into the room.\n\nWe’ve been lucky enough to have Ray playing our little bar for a few times now\, and these nights always feel a little special.\n\nSo come grab a drink and get close.\n\nNo cover. It’s cozy. It’s boozy.\nAnd after thirteen years\, it’s become one of our favorite little Speak of the Devil holiday traditions.\n\nCome in from the cold. Have a nog. And somewhere along the way you realize\, “well\, I guess this is just part of Christmas now.”\n\nThat’s Mike Petrone at Speak of the Devil.\n\nCleveland’s own “Piano Man” has become as much a part of the holidays around here as our Nog & Glögg\, and we honestly can’t imagine the season without him anymore.\n\nMike settles in at the piano\, the drinks start flowing\, and before long the whole damn bar is singing along. Christmas songs\, old favorites\, requests\, probably a few things that have absolutely nothing to do with Christmas—and by the end of the night\, any distinction between Mike and the audience has pretty much disappeared.\n\nIt’s loud. It’s warm. It’s wonderfully ridiculous.\n\nAnd it is so much fun.\n\nSo gather up some friends\, grab a holiday drink and come sing your fool head off with us.\n\nA whole bunch of holiday cheer\, a whole bunch of singalongs\, and one of our absolute favorite nights of the year.\n\nYeah.
